Being a stay-at-home mother has consumed my life for the past 5 years. Don't get me wrong, I love my little boogers, but they are a LOT of work!
My new year's resolution this year is "ME." Somehow I have lost myself. It's all about the kids, husband, housework, and making everyone else happy. After a lot of self reflection and talking with my hubby, things are going to change. I can only give what I have....and most the time I am running on empty.
These little princesses deserve a confident, energized, and happy mother that they can look up to. I never had a healthy relationship with my mother growing up, so this "mother thing" is new territory for me. I'm just making it up as I go along.
SOOO with that said, 2010 is the year of ME!
Things on my to do list:
- Yoga or meditate daily
- Keep my toe nails painted
- Take a cooking class
- Figure out what I want to be when I grow up
- Go back to school...or at least apply for grants
- Get my hair cut and colored....I don't think I've gotten a haircut since the twins were born...who has time for that?!
- Buy a new camera and take a photography class
- Learn to sew
- Go on vacation with my two AMAZING sisters who just happen to be my best friends...no husbands and no kids!
- Shower, brush teeth, and get dressed daily....hey, don't judge....
- Read more books

That is a great list! I need to do more of all those things as well!
You're so right, Dana! I'm also in the process of rediscovering myself! It could sounds selfish but it's one of the best things you can do for yourself AND your family.
Yeah for me time! What a great list. If you need help with the school thing let me know. It was much easier than I thought it would be. I also helped get my oldest brother back in school this year too!
thanks for the support ladies! i think ALL mom's can relate and benifit from taking care of ourselves more.
martha~ i would LOVE the help! it's all a little overwhelming. i haven't been in a classroom in 11 yrs! not really sure were to start...
So I know I'm waayy behind here, but wanted to throw my 2 cents in anyway. I love love love your list. I made one too and (funny enough) showering, brushing & flossing made my list too.
I hope this new years resolution is sticking. You're 100% right: our kids deserve happy confident mommas. And more importantly (since you'll have you longer than you'll have them if all goes as planned), you deserve to BE a happy confident momma.
Here's to you, girl. You're awesome.
thanks erynn! good to know i'm not alone =)
let me clarify...i do brush my teeth, haha! but the point was taking the time to do the little things for yourself...somedays i get so "busy" that it's 2 o'clock in the afternoon before i get to it!!
